Pool Deck Project in Pardeeville

Pool decks are their own category. The environment is wet by design — splash zones, standing water, chlorinated drips. A deck built without accounting for that reality will look rough within a few seasons. So when a Pardeeville family came to us for a pool deck surround, we started the conversation with materials and drainage before we ever talked aesthetics.

The Starting Point

The homeowners had an above-ground pool with a temporary, weather-beaten wood platform around it that had never worked quite right — too small, too close to the ground, and slippery when wet. They wanted a full surround deck that made the pool feel intentional and their backyard feel finished.

Material Considerations

For pool environments, composite decking is typically the right call. Here's why: wood decking around a pool absorbs water, cycles through wet and dry repeatedly, and is subject to constant UV exposure. The result is a deck that splinters, warps, and demands constant maintenance. Composite boards are non-porous, dimensionally stable, and don't splinter — which matters a lot when bare feet are involved.

We used a Deckorators composite product for this project — a line we're certified to install — with a grooved edge and hidden fastener system that leaves a clean face with no exposed screw heads.

Drainage & Safety

We built the deck surface with a subtle slope away from the pool so water drains off the surface instead of pooling. Post footings were dug well below frost depth. Around the pool ladder, we left a slight reveal in the decking so people entering and exiting have a defined, secure landing zone.

The Finished Space

What was once a jury-rigged wood platform is now a clean, finished outdoor living area. The pool feels like a real part of the backyard rather than something dropped in. Low maintenance, safe, and built for the long term — which is exactly what the family wanted.
